Doodle Jump - All Time Most Downloaded Paid App

Doodle Jump has just announced being the most downloaded iPhone paid app ever, and I second that. They claim 3,5 million downloads, while only three weeks before they claimed 3 million, which shows the incredibly fast progression of this "insanely addictive game".

My estimate was 3,3 million, but I guess it's increasing very fast so I will update that in the next rankings.

Doodle Jump as a number 1 paid app is also a symbol of a now common fact: Most paid apps best sellers are games.

However, we can estimate based on Tap Tap Revenge, Bubble Wrap or Touch Hockey Estimates that if Doodle Jump was free, they could have sold 5 times more applications. Even at less than a dollar, placing an app in the "paid apps" category probably reduces your market by more than 70%.

This is also one of the first app to appear in popular culture, at least in Sheldon's vocabulary in Big Bang Theory :)

Shazam at 15 million downloads - Confirms my estimate

Apparently my estimates are not so bad - it was announced yesterday (source: Techcrunch) that Shazam had indeed 15 million downloads.

"One of those profitable companies is Shazam, the mobile music discovery service. The service noted today that it has seen over 15 million downloads on the iPhone (and iPod touch). Most of those are downloads of the free version of the app, but that free version has served as a gateway drug of sorts to get users hooked and eventually buying the premium version with more features."
